On Monday, September 24, in the German capital of Berlin, the second Iraqi Business Forum began by Dr. Thomas Bach, President of the Ghorfa Arab-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry welcoming H.E. Rowsch Nuri Shaways, the Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and a number of German and Iraqi Ministers, Governors, heads of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce and German economic officials.

The Al Zaqoora Small Business Development Center has made great advances over the last year, by conducting training and job development for unemployed youth, developing and expanding their Printing & Advertising Center and recently in establishing their Employment Placement Service Center with support from the USAID-Tijara program.
Najaf SBDC Journalist recognized as the only Iraqi to attend German’s Goethe Institute Training

Eleven Arab journalists were accepted by the world famous Goethe Institute in Berlin for a two month training program for cultural journalists from the Arab World. The only journalist accepted from Iraq is Mohammed Almoumin, a journalist for the Najaf Economic Gazette which is produced by the Najaf SBDC and is also a presenter for the satellite channel Alnajaf Alashraf. Joining Mohammad will be 3 journalists from Egypt and Palestine, two from Lebanon and one each from Tunisia and Jordan.
Najaf SBDC Cements their Relationship with Local Builders

The Kufa Cement Company, a member of the Southern Cement State Company in Najaf, approached the Najaf Small Business Development Center to assist them in engaging construction companies and other buyers of cement in Najaf on ways to inform local buyers and educating them on the benefits of purchasing cement locally versus importing product produced from outside of Iraq.
USAID Supports Provincial Printing & Marketing Service Centers

The Karbala Printing and Marketing Service Center has gone from a dream, to a concept, to a proposal and on 12 July held their Grand Opening ceremonies at the Karbala Business Development Center (KBDC). The KBDC recently signed a Performance Grant Agreement with the USAID-Tijara program for funding to establish the Marketing Service Center in Karbala.

The large format banner printer was the last piece of equipment to arrive, completing the first round of printer purchases for the Karbala Printing and Marketing Service Center, culminating many months of planning and hard work by the staff of the Karbala Business Development Center (KBDC). Thanks to funding from the KBDC and a Performance Grant from the USAID Tijara Provincial Economic Growth program, customers from private businesses, universities, government and individuals can find design and printing services in Karbala for their business cards, menus, flyers, reports and banners without having to leave the city.
